Dunmore Swamp, 2023

In the studio, plein air studies and photographs are used as a reference for the composition and intuitive selection of colours and brushstrokes, resulting in my interpretation of various places that I have visited or live nearby. For example, Minnamurra River estuary supports a large stand of mangroves and swamp oak forests. Plein air charcoal and gouache sketches were completed at one section of the river located near Dunmore. History refers to this area as “The Bloody Mile” due to significant and unusual events that have occurred.
