Clare Lewis

Ridge with a View, 2023

OIL ON CANVAS
76 × 61 cm
The inspiration for my landscapes is our beautiful patch of unspoilt bushland which I spend time on, walking, photographing, sketching and painting. The emotions derived from spending time there is indescribable. I often stand in absolute awe of everything around me. Nothing makes me happier than getting up super early and just quietly walking, watching Lyrebirds, Red Browed Finches, so many beautiful birds and of course the Wallabies, Kangaroos, Echidnas and Emus. Photographs do not capture the emotion but I am hopeful that my paintings can in some small way.

Clare studied photography at Westminster, London. Always having an interest in art Clare pursued a career in photography whilst raising a family in the U.S., U.K. and then in Sydney where she now resides. She undertook art classes during this time, including Printmaking with Seraphina Martin and more recently oil painting with Marie Mansfield. Clare’s still life paintings usually include ceramics from vintage/charity stores often with fruit. Her landscape works are inspired from visiting her off grid property on pristine bushland south of Sydney.
