Daisy Chain Still Life, 2023

REDUCTION FIRED CERAMIC (STONEWARE)
30 × 15 × 15 cm
I’m a ceramicist crafting functional forms and vessels from my studio at JamFactory. I’m currently fully immersed in the Ceramic Associate Program, delving into the world of ceramic design, functionality and surface. My creative approach merges traditional techniques with contemporary design, resulting in pieces that embody a harmonious blend of the past and the present. I find joy in experimenting with, and pairing large wheel-thrown forms with the nuances of hand-building techniques like pinching, coiling, slip casting, and slab building. This work ‘Daisy Chain Still Life’ is a series of functional ceramic works, reduction fired to 1300C. This body of work is the outcome of ceramic residencies, workshops, mentorships and experiences had over the last six years. In 2021, I began a residency at George Street Studios, before taking on the JamFactory’s Associate Program during 2022, and mentorships with ceramic artists Kirsten Coelho, Susan Frost, Stephanie James-Manttan, Ben Richardson, Kenji Uranishi, Glenn Barkley, Peter Andersson, Elliat Rich and Brian Parkes. Each conversation and discussion around form, surface, process and media have come together to create this still life work.   Image by Emmaline Zanelli
