Work entitled thread: Is exactly this threads of colour, interwoven, loose and sometimes disconnected. The concept comes from my memories of my mothers work in the museum of Chilean Azapa references to Precolonial textiles of the people northern Chile. Here I am placing my own painted woven stories, childhood memories growing up in American school yards
Nuñez Rojas -1987, Valley Azapa, Chile. Nuñez is a mix of indigenous Chilean, Spanish and African from Kenya. The descendants of slaves are her ancestors. Her practice reflects on Cultural identity and self identity. Using painting, video, and photography to document the placement of form, colour and light through inherent movement. She creates cultural patchwork’s of storytelling, fragments of American upbringings, diaspora, and cultural research. She was based in Brooklyn New York where she was involved in Preformed art and research on human interaction, now resides in Country NSW.
