Bree Riley (SOLD)

Mudyi, 2021

ACRYLIC ON STRETCHED CANVAS
101 × 101 cm
I named this painting “Mudyi”, which is a Wiradjuri word meaning “Friend”. Trees are living and are natural resources that demand respect. We need to protect them, care for them and show respect by only taking when we are allowed to take. When I saw the spirit captured by Gerard Black in a beautiful photograph taken on Gadubanud Country, it really inspired me. Regardless of whose lands we are standing and where we walk our path – we all have obligations as custodians to help the trees grow and stand tall. Trees are our friends. Respect creation.
