Favourite Gum Tree on North Coast Road, 2023

OIL ON LINEN
51 × 51 cm
Driving on a warm summers day on the dirt road that is the North Coast Road on Kangaroo Island I stop at this beautiful and majestic gum tree with is snaking branches. The sparse foliage of the tree only makes flickering patches of shadow in the midday sun. It isn’t the first time I have stopped at this tree, there is something magic here.

Cecilia is an artist originally from Sweden. She has now lived in South Australia for half her life, dividing her time between Adelaide and Kangaroo Island. She finds her muse in the natural world of the landscape and ocean that surrounds her. Cecilia paints mainly in oils, expressing the light and form with patterns of vibrant colours and bold brushstrokes. When close her paintings might appear to have an abstract expression but when stepping back the image is more apparent. Cecilia studied at various art schools in Göteborg including HDK (Högskolan för Design and Konsthantverk) at the University of Göteborg.
