Cymbidium Obsession, 2022

Cymbidium stems are a perfect match for my chosen medium; bold forms with vivid hues, not fussy or delicate they shout “look at me”.

Inspired by the bushland surrounding my studio in Terrey Hills, I work in oil pastels because they force me to use bold decisive marks. I don’t erase or rub out ‘mistakes’. I don’t overwork the pastels and rarely overlay colours. My botanical studies are unpretentious and contemporary depictions of flora.
