Jasmine Raisbeck

Woman’s back, 2022

OIL ON BOARD. FRAMED IN TASMANIAN OAK.
36 × 30 cm
I am drawn to painting the female form through a female lens. I have used the alla prima technique to paint this image of a woman's back. Thick expressive brushstrokes have been used to loosely interpret form. As women, we go through a lot, both physically and emotionally, during our lives and our bodies store these experiences. Through the movement in my brushstrokes, I aim to reflect this.
Jasmine Raisbeck is a multi-disciplinary artist from Perth, Western Australia, who makes art in between raising her two young daughters. A former journalist and tv producer, Jasmine only returned to her art practice after the birth of her second daughter three years ago. She has since won Third Prize in the Claremont Art Awards, received a Highly Commended in the Gallerist’s Emerging art Prize, and been a finalist in the SBS Portrait Prize. Jasmine is a largely self-taught artist who initially returned to her love of art as a form of therapy after experiencing post-natal anxiety – an experience that continues to influence her art practice today. Jasmine’s multi-disciplinary practice includes painting, sculpture and ceramics – mediums that give her opportunities to connect with her body in a meditative and calming state. Through her work, Jasmine is particularly interested in expressions of feminine forms through a female lens.
