In my work, I aim to capture transient moments of exceptional beauty that I encounter in ordinary life. The tension between Sydney’s rapidly transforming cityscape and the desire for an aesthetic permanence in the historic neighbourhoods around the Harbour often simmers below the surface. “Before Barangaroo Station” explores a central question regarding how we as artists record history: do we have an imperative to describe accurately, or is it our prerogative to memorialise visual encounters as we would like them to be remembered? And as the future of this foreshore area hangs in the balance, I believe the work to catalogue these times of transition takes on an increasing sense of urgency.
