Mignon Steele is an independent artist based in the Illawarra who has exhibited in Sydney, Darwin, Melbourne, Newcastle and Wollongong. In recent years she has been a finalist in prizes such as Hazelhurst Art on Paper, Milburn Art Prize, Fisher’s Ghost and Flow at Wollongong Art Gallery. Steele has undertaken residencies at The Lockup Art Space in Newcastle, Gang Gang Residency Cuttagee and The Bank in Port Kembla.
Mignon is also part of an ongoing collaborative practice within the multidisciplinary duo Barnacle Studio which allows an expansion upon her individual work into site-specific painting, architectural colour and community art projects.
Established in 2021, the National Emerging Art Prize was created to provide an annual, highly visible national platform to identify, promote and support the most promising emerging visual and ceramic artists in Australia.
