The Pool in the Garden, 2022

OIL ON BOARD
30.5 × 30.5 cm
Chantel de Latour’s current work investigates memory and physical spaces through the use of light and colour. Her paintings focus on the fluid nature of recurring memories that form an attachment to place. Distance and scale are key elements in her choice of subjects – from coastlines to swimming pools.
These works continue an open-ended exploration into the visual atmosphere of early memories.
Chantel de Latour completed a Bachelor of Fine Art at the Victorian College of the Arts (2011) and a Graduate Certificate in Art History at the University of Melbourne (2018).  Chantel has been the recipient of the Gary Fell Award and the Shelmerdine Art Award from the Victorian College of the Arts. In 2021, she was a finalist in the Lethbridge Art Award and the National Emerging Art Prize. She lives and works in Melbourne.
