I sketched quite a few poses of my model before settling on this particular one. Sophia was tying her hair up and the composition and familiarity of doing something so mundane struck me as being quite beautiful.
The cool blue vibrancy of the fabric fall and flow around her, whilst maintaining strong bold colours to convey a strength in a moment of softness and femininity.
Suzanne is a West Australian artist who works primarily in oils. Her paintings reflect her love of portraiture, still life and florals. She is inspired by the old master’s technique of layering paint over a toned ground surface, slowly building up transparent layers to create depth and form.
Her portraiture style brings an intimacy to her subjects and elicits the essence of the sitter, whilst maintaining her artistic voice.
