On the edge of Solitude, 2023

OIL ON BELGIAN LINEN
75 × 100 cm
My paintings are inspired by the environs in and around the Sydney Harbour foreshore. Images are loosely based on actual settings but for the most part are imagined. I have tried to capture the impact of manmade structures on the environment, the mood they create, the colours I feel and the absence of natural scenery, replaced by concrete, buildings and wharves. I often include a small abstract reference to the natural environment. My painting imagines the the impact of the industrialised waterfront on the natural environment hinted at by the distant foreshore.

I have lived in Pyrmont for over 20 years and have a studio at One Plus 2 Artists Studios Rozelle.
I was a part time student at Julian Ashton for many years and have taken various short courses with NAS and private tutors.

I paint in oils. Drawing is a big part of my approach to my art. I am drawn to figurative painting both the human form and city scapes. I am currently focussed on creating paintings inspired by the foreshore and surrounds of the western side of Sydney Harbour especially around Pyrmont and Glebe.

I have had a number of exhibitions. I won the inaugural Pyrmont Art Prize and have been a finalist in various competitions including Mosman Art Prize.

I have always painted and since retiring I now focus fully on my art.
