OIL ON LINEN
61 × 61 cm
The forms of nature are everything! The intricacies, complexities and interconnectedness of all living things are my inspiration. Australian flora is especially enthralling to me and I often explore the beauty of this extraordinary subject in my work. Close observation of the intimate forms of leaves, branches and flowers, and the play of light and shadow is a focus. I work largely in oil paint layering transparent and opaque pigment to create mood and atmosphere. I paint to express the materiality of the medium – I want paint to look like paint and explore the inherent properties of pigment on the support. I see myself as being part of a long tradition of oil painters and I draw much inspiration from this legacy.

I am an artist based on the south coast of New South Wales, working mainly in still life and botanical painting. I hold a visual arts degree from CoFA and studied oil painting for 3 years at the Charlie Sheard Studio school.

An oil painter working predominately in still life, my paintings explore the beauty and complexity of the natural world.

I have exhibited regularly since 2011 and have been a finalist in several art awards, including the Basic Sellers Art Prize, the Mosman Art Prize, the Hunters Hill Art Prize, the Calleen Art Prize and the Eutick Memorial Art Prize.
