Cara Mand is an analogue photographer living and creating on Boonwurrung
land (Melbourne), Australia. Mother to two, her work emerges from the
transformative experience of motherhood and the tension between fragility
and tenacity. Exploring themes of tenderness, grief and memory, she draws
on a background in bioethics to examine how we inhabit our bodies, relate to
one another, and navigate periods of change. Through traditional analogue
and experimental photographic processes, she examines questions of
representation, autonomy, and care. Using a quiet and intuitive visual
language, her photographs invite reflection on intimacy, loss, connection, and
becoming. Her work has been exhibited internationally and featured in books,
magazines, and campaigns.
