BLACK STORIES FROM THE HEART

With these works, we are honouring black heritage, we pay tribute to our ancestors when they still used fire to cleanse the land, cook their food and keep their bodies warm at night.

We reflect on the past when we use the sacred earth for ceremonies to paint our art and use ochre on our bodies.

where would we be without native plants? they provide us with food and medicine and material to create our tools and weapons.

We pay respect to our Totems and all animals that have supported life over many thousands of years. they have given us food, clothing and spiritual guidance on our path.

When a line is drawn in the sand, we know we have to stop and think, Songlines, Bloodlines, Storylines, Borderlines and Waterlines all carry important meaning in our tradition and culture.

The fleeting nature of smoke has created the black surface on our works and connects us to the sacred ceremony, cleansing and campfire.
