I am an abstract artist interested in the act of painting as a process of release. Themes that arise in my work, are those of care, repair, memory, connection, and relationships. I create paintings both as a tangible space in which to work through my thoughts and as an invitation to open an intimate dialogue with the viewer around universal yet deeply personal themes.

I work on un-stretched canvas, adding layers of colour in a physical attempt to form greater clarity around my thoughts. The pieces have a textile feel to them, with messy stitches around the edge, a ritual that has fallen into place as an act of closure for the painting. I like to work with non-precious materials, such as house paint and my daughter’s craft supplies, allowing me to respond to a feeling or a thought with immediacy. They also offer a direct window into my daily life as a mother and an artist in this current moment.

In the work I Remember Poplars, I find myself grappling with a memory of where I grew up in Italy as a teenager. I remember a park around the corner from my house. It was small and indistinguishable, but I recall days when I’d seek refuge there amongst the mist, held by the poplar trees. There were conversations held between me and those trees, and when I think of that place, I feel both a sense of fondness and sadness.
Our personal recollections are often biased, fragmented, and complex. This one came to me as colours, vague shapes, and a feeling, and it intuitively made its way onto the canvas.

The work explores how recollection is personal and imbued with individual feelings and experience.

Giulia Corradi is a visual artist who was born in the UK to Italian parents. She moved to Italy at the age of thirteen and is now living on Dharrawal Country, Bulli. Since graduating from the Brera Academy of Fine Arts in Milan (Italy) Giulia has developed a practice of painting abstract forms and colour on unstretched, stitched canvases that hang like tapestries in the space.
She was an artist in residence in 2023 at Wollongong Creative Arts Studios and delved deeper into her practice in 2025 during a residency at Landslide Gallery on Dharug and Gundungurra Country in the Blue Mountains. She has since exhibited in group shows and recently had a solo exhibition,
“I Will Love You and Me Both” (May 2026), on Gadigal Country, Sydney. She has won the Thirroul Art Prize and was recently nominated as a finalist for the Fisher’s Ghost Art Award 2026.
