Juncture explores the moments in life when one path becomes many, when decisions, disruption and uncertainty force us to pause, reconsider and choose a direction.

Broken lines in deep reds, earthy browns and lifted whites traverse a soft pale blue ground, mapping the twists, tensions and momentum of lived experience. Some lines push forward with urgency, while others fracture, change direction or disappear, reflecting the uncertainty that can accompany moments of transition.

Within this movement, solid blocks of black and grounded brown create moments of stillness. I see these as quiet rest stops, spaces to settle, breathe and reflect before continuing. They represent the importance of recognising that progress isn't always about moving forward; sometimes it is found in stopping.

The work is also about gratitude. Not gratitude for a perfect or straightforward path, but for the interruptions and pauses that allow us to gather ourselves, reassess and find strength again. The moments that initially feel like disruption can become the very spaces where clarity emerges.

The pale blue ground provides a sense of openness beneath the more intense marks, allowing the fractured paths to remain visible rather than resolved. There is no single beginning or end, and no clearly defined route through the painting. Instead, the viewer is invited to move through it, following lines, intersections and pauses in much the same way we navigate our own experiences.

Juncture is part of my ongoing exploration of memory, movement and the emotional landscape of lived experience. Through abstraction, I am interested in creating a space where personal meaning remains open, where the viewer can recognise something of their own journey within the tension, interruption and possibility of the work.
Jonathan Osmond is a UK-born, Newcastle NSW based abstract artist whose practice explores memory, movement, texture and the emotional experience of place. He has created and sold artwork since his A-Level studies in the UK, developing his practice alongside a career spanning events, media and creative industries. Over the past two years, Jonathan has made a renewed commitment to his professional art practice, with display through LEDA Gallery, Newcastle; SIBU Gallery, Sydney; and Art to Art, Melbourne. His work has been exhibited in multiple local dual and group exhibitions and has reached collectors across Australia and internationally. Recent recognition includes Semi-Finalist, Newcastle Art Prize 2025 and Finalist, Hunter Emerging Art Prize 2026. Working primarily in acrylic and mixed media, Jonathan builds layered surfaces through instinctive gesture, disruption and reworking. His paintings sit between abstraction and lived experience, allowing colour, line and texture to suggest rather than define a narrative. Based in Newcastle, his work is influenced by coastal environments, shifting light, sound and the imperfect pathways of everyday life. His practice seeks moments of tension and release, inviting the viewer to pause, reflect and find their own connection within the work.
