Tempietto – stained stoneware vase
The form of this vase is based on pure fantasy, imagining what everyday structures in our lives could be using a mish-mash of styles from renaissance architecture to today’s austere minimalism. It ponders a future of what a building could look like in hundreds of years, after sands and wind and rain have reshaped them and has been repurposed to be something greater. It dwells on an ancient past, some uncovered artifact, the purpose of which remains unknown. It has been made instinctively, each completed section leading to the placement and shaping of the next, with minimal planning. This allows the piece a very still and meditative presence that belies its smaller size.
