Patrick & Margaret are seen here directly across the street from our house walking towards our local supermarket. They have also visited us for a cup of tea and a chat before. In Derby, many people walk to places, unlike in the city. I like that. The graffiti on the fence (which has since been painted over) reflects some of the competition between Kimberley towns and ‘Blood City’ is a nickname for Derby sometimes. I painted it in because, well, why sanitise what we see every day?
Originally from South Australia, Linda Wilson has been living in the Kimberley region of North West Australia since 2004. Alongside her work as a pastoral carer with Indigenous women and children, Linda has developed her art practice from the inspiration she finds in the stunning Kimberley landscapes and the relationships she has developed. Winning the overall painting category for the Kimberley Art & Photographic Prize in 2024 was a catalyst to begin her painting journey in earnest.
