My artistic practice centres around the creation of vessels that reflect the delicate dynamics of our world marked by fragility. Through the mediums of porcelain and fabric, I fashion vessels that embody the resilience and adaptability required to navigate life and the way in which we contribute to the delicate complexities that are involved in our environment. The deliberate construction, characterized by folding and layering, serves to accentuate the nuanced relationship between the contrasting elements. With a single firing, a visual tale with a textural surface reminiscent of charred bark emerges, mirroring the fragility inherent in our world and of the transient nature of existence. Yet from this fragility emerges the enduring strength of the porcelain, symbolic of the resilience that thrives amidst adversity. Ultimately, my vessels serve as a visual and tactile exploration of the nuanced connections between fragility and resilience, offering a poignant meditation on the beauty and complexity of our existence within this fragile world.

Lorraine is a Northern Rivers based artist currently working in ceramics. Drawing on a background in tailoring and costume making, she embraces the strong parallels in foundation, structure and construction that connect and flow through to her ceramics practice.
Her considered works are the result of experimentation and research, pushing boundaries and overcoming challenges in the act of making, to develop a unique process that fuses porcelain and fabric together to create sculptural vessels.
The making, with a balance of control, contouring folds and layers from the inside out, to letting go to the unknown with a single firing technique, she responds both consumed by and responsive to the world around her.
Lorraine studied ceramics at Lismore Tafe, N.S.W. completing her Diploma of Ceramics in 2023, receiving an award for her innovation, dedication, and commitment at her graduating exhibition. Lorraine was also selected for ‘Beyond the Brush” A Tafe Exhibition, held at Parliament House Sydney N.S.W in May 2024.
Her ceramics have been selected as finalists in several prizes including The Swell Small Art Sculpture Prize (2024), Muswellbrook Art Prize (2024) and Ravenswood Australian Women’s Art Prize (2024), Wollumbin Art Award at Tweed Regional Gallery (2024), Stanthorpe Art Prize (2024), Woollahra Small Sculpture Prize (2024), Urunga Small Sculpture Award (2024) and the North Queensland Ceramics Award (2024).
Receiving, highly commended in the Revival Emerging Artist Prize (2024), Lorraine won The Best Emerging Artist Award for North Coast Ceramics, Inaugural Award (2024).
