“THE NORTH WIND”, 2024. OIL ON CANVAS, PAINTED ON A REPRODUCTION OF “THE NORTH WIND” BY FREDERICK MCCUBBIN, 1888, NGV.

Mook’s paintings inject new narratives into familiar scenes- investigating alternate realities, romantic landscapes and colonial foolishness. His work interrupts the familiar and playfully interrogates reality, history and culture with a mixture of wit, weirdness and pathos. In the “Australian Classic” series, Mook takes reproductions of beloved colonial Artworks and alters them – removing the the subjects, changing the field of view and contents of the scene- and then adds in new subjects, stories and structures. He has exhibited in a 2024 solo exhibition, numerous group exhibitions and was a finalist in both the Adelaide Parklands Art Prize, 2023 and Maritime Art Prize, Mission to Seafarers, Melbourne, 2023.
