THE CARD GAME WITH BAILEY AND SIR FREDERICK, 2021

OIL ON CANVAS
90 × 120 cm
$4,800
This is one of my versions of this ludicrous scene of playing cards (small nod to Cezanne), whilst wearing kangaroo masks (nod to being Aussie), accompanied by our newly tamed wild rabbits (with ridiculous names). The eyelessnes of the humans, the wandering eyes of the kangaroos and the body language of attention to the card game strikes a cord with me. What are they doing? who are they kidding? why?
I am an artist and now part time medical doctor (radiologist and nuclear medicine specialist). At the hospital, I interpret imaging studies; at my home studio I see visions on the canvas and paint sories that catch my imagination. My life is about the visual form, the appearance and meaning of things stories and gestures. I cannot live without creating. I live to paint light and love; joy, sadness, the ridiculous and the sublime. I am a self taught artist. My first exhibition was a two person exhibition in my earl twenties at the University of Melbourne. I then put painting on hold for many years to take up medicine and do my specialist training. I have now retuned full circle, with ever more intense focus on the art.
