So This Is In The Air, 2024

So This Is In The Air attempts to explore the often intangible nature or a human’s experience with an environment. Challenging traditional notions of landscape painting, the work encourages to view the work not unlike a portrait. The work appears fragmented, while still depicting a readable gum tree, encouraging the viewer to look deeper into the painting to get a sense of the what the experience is like when one finds themselves enveloped by an environment. Like most of my work the painting endeavours to straddle the line between control and spontaneity and manufacture some order amongst the chaos.

Jon Ford (b. 1985) is a Melbourne based multidisciplinary artist. He studied at the National Art School (2006) and since completed studies in art education. Ford has developed a unique style of figurative abstraction in an attempt to explore the often intangible nature of a human’s experience with the world.
