Skurweberg ( meaning Rough Mountain in Afrikaans) have been my inspiration on this mountain scene on a trip back to South Africa in 2022. I have this obsession with painting mountains and mountain ranges, their unique shapes, colouring and topographic qualities on all our travels. Some are lucky enough to become paintings and some are still just ideas in my mind. I have realised over the years that my mountain obsession is in a way a tribute and way of worship to honour God as creator of our universe and how in scripture His power and majesty is often compared to mountains. “Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever thou hadst formed the earth and the world, Even from everlasting to everlasting, thou art God.” ‭‭Psalm‬ ‭90‬:‭2‬ ‭KJV‬‬ I love how i can create depth and texture with oil paints and create movement in the paintings through colour marbling. This painting showcases some of my favourite techniques used especially in my landscape paintings. This artwork was painted with palette knives.
