Sinking Fortune represents a visual point in time, born from a collection of fragmented memories in early 2026 while moving out of my studio and preparing for a residency in Portugal. It captures a period of transition where daily surroundings and routines began to dissolve. For me, the act of painting brings these overlapping moments together as a material archive, where past and present shift across the canvas.
Bradlee Wiseman is an emerging artist living and working on Dharawal Country in the Illawarra, NSW. He holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Painting) from UNSW Art & Design. His key exhibitions include This is That (Kudos Gallery, 2019) and Oscillate (AirSpace Projects, 2023), followed by an artist residency at Córtex Frontal in Portugal (2026). His work has also been recognised in the Georges River Art Prize (2025), Fisher’s Ghost Art Award (2017), and UNSW Art & Design Emerging Artist Award (2017).
Wiseman is interested in time and how we experience and store time through memory. Drawing from both physical and digital sources, including found photographs, online archives, personal snapshots, and references to art history, he constructs layered works where different fragments interact across and dissolve into the canvas. Each work is stripped of its previous narrative and ultimately becomes its own material archive, through the act of remembering and the act of painting.
