Stacey McCall

Morning Light, 2021

27 × 37 cm
The intimacy of stacey's subject matter is intertwined with the scale of her work. Small vignettes of quiet moments, captured with a robust yet gentle brushstroke, her sense of place and home expressed with tenderness, light and shadow observed, portraying the ephemera that sits unnoticed, still and silent in a busy home.

" Burnt sienna underpainting glows through transparent layers of muted colour, a nod to the palette of my 70's childhood, memories of eartheware and gum leaves, carefully curated. I think more and more I am comfortable with leaving things a little raw but hopefully resolved. It's difficult to know when to put the brush down but I think sometimes the less said the better".
After Completing a Degree in Fine Art at RMIT, majoring in Gold and Silversmithing, Stacey spent the next twelve years designing and making bespoke jewellery, eventually opening a small store and workshop in Melbourne’s inner city suburb of Kensington. Following the birth of daughter number three, Stacey’s practice was homeward bound, and after daughter number five , her creativity was nurtured by knitting, drawing and painting. Now that her daughters are in their teens and beyond, Stacey’s garden studio provides the perfect space to grow her art practice.
