Bernadette Trainor

Mandarin, 2023

ACRYLIC ON PLY BOARD
22.8 × 30.5 cm
One of the joys of mid-winter is knowing the longest, darkest night will be behind you. The cold darkness is cut by the crisp Winter sunshine. The sweetness of winter fruit carries with it the memory of summer warmth and the promise that the sun will return. Mandarin is a celebration of this interplay of shadows and light.

Bernadette has a background in jewellery and object design but is now finding her way back into a creative practice after a hiatus working in the corporate world.
Based on Awabakal country in the Newcastle area, Bernadette has shifted her focus to observational painting in acrylics. Her works are explorations in colour and composition, taking inspiration from the quiet moments in everyday life.
