Imogen Eve

Holding it all together, 2021

WATERCOLOUR, GOUACHE AND CARAN D'ACHE FLUO PENCIL
75 × 58 cm
$1,400
Partly meditative, partly agitated, this work was completed on the only table in our small house, while schooling my three primary aged kids. The flowers were a gift from my sister's garden, a reminder of the importance of connection and a celebration of nature and community – elements that all proved to be crucial as our world shrank. The shadows are indistinct and not quite sensible, referencing the ever-changing light as I stopped and started, time not quite feeling the same.
Sydney-based independent artist and formally trained designer, Imogen Eve predominantly works with oil paints, watercolours and textiles. Her practice continues and playfully expands upon the lineage of still life painting, whilst experimenting with different techniques. Eve’s paintings are multi-layered explorations of life and motherhood through objects, flowers and collections. Eve is interested in the stories that celebrate the everyday, the domestic and the mundane, recording a history that is intensely personal.
