Chrystie Longworth is an artist based on Dharawal Country, nestled between high cliffs and the sea. Her work draws inspiration from the dynamic currents of popular culture, advertising, and contemporary events, focusing on the intricacies of communication and the messages we strive to convey. Known for her colour-saturated ceramics, she is interested in how different palettes evoke their own moods.
Chrystie frequently works with terracotta and pigments, forgoing glaze to highlight the matte, tactile quality of the materials and the subtle play of light as it caresses the curves of her sculptures. Originally trained in Printmaking at Sydney College of the Arts, Chrystie is in her final year of a Masters of Ceramics at the National Art School.
Established in 2021, the National Emerging Art Prize was created to provide an annual, highly visible national platform to identify, promote and support the most promising emerging visual and ceramic artists in Australia.
