I am looking for beauty and hope in cracked and broken pots. Transferware ceramics have been treasured and collected for generations for their bold colours and designs. It is mass produced and valued when it is uniform and flawless. This transferware vase was made from slabs of clay that have been torn apart then blended back together to form a new shape. The cracks in the vase are evidence of traumatic damage but also of a joining together and a rebuilding.
The clay has been reconstructed into a new vase that wears its cracks and lines with pride. The transferware designs are still beautiful and bright, but they are blemished. The vase will never return to its former state because it has revived into a new form that is individual, functional and beautiful, made complete by its cracks and flaws.
