Ali Anderson

Colour play green square, 2023

FLASHE ACRYLIC ON BOARD
60 × 60 cm
Inspired by textile designs of South East Asia, Ali Andersons’ vibrant paintings explore colour, form, shape and movement, pushing the designs to create harmonious abstract compositions. Enjoying the simplicity and balance of the square, Anderson uses intuition when creating her geometric compositions of overlaying squares with intentionally slightly wobbly lines. The use of Flashe vinyl paint, with its high concentration of pigments and velvety matt finish leave her work brilliant with colour. Anderson believes colour is extremely emotive and important to her work is a sense of surprise and joy.

Ali Anderson completed a Bachelor of Fine Art from the National Art School, majoring in painting in 2021. Her love of colour was nurtured at the School of Colour and Design and interest in drawing at the Julian Ashton Art School. She moved with her family to Bali and Cambodia for ten years and it was there she developed an interest in South East Asian Art, particularly inspired by the textiles and batiks of Indonesia and the reliefs on the temples in Cambodia. Returning to Sydney she continued her love of travel and interest in Asian cultures working as a travel designer specializing in travel to India and Sri Lanka. She currently lives in regional NSW where she divides her time between managing her small herd of Angus cattle, honing her gardening skills and continuing her painting practice.
