Algorithm, 2024

OIL
50 × 40 cm
“Algorithm” is my self-portrait, capturing my struggle to achieve success in the digital age. This oil painting depicts my face pressed against plastic wrap, symbolising the constraints and pressures imposed by modern technology and social media. The plastic wrap represents our constant focus on the plastic in our hands—phones and other devices. The tension and distortion in the image reflect my difficulty in breaking free from the algorithms that dominate social media. As an artist, not a film editor or social media expert, I highlight the challenge of maintaining creativity and authenticity in a world driven by digital expectations.

I’m an artist originally from Dublin, now based in Western Australia. Over the past 15 years, I’ve developed my skills through travel and commissioned work worldwide. I focus on oil painting, especially portraits, as I enjoy capturing the unique emotions and personalities of people. Alongside my painting, I also work as a prop modeller and have contributed to projects like The Eternals, The Witcher, and House of Dragon.
