I have a favourite shelf in my studio that captures amazing early morning light and shadows. It is intense in the Summer months with the stark white background of the wall and long elongated shadows that tend to set my theme for the day. I paint many series there, particularly in the midst of Summer and get lost in the contrasts (in a good way).
This painting is one of these. Crazy shadows from the wonky bottle, shadows hiding secrets and Banksia Robur branches and cones, resilient, quirky and yet fragile and beautiful.
Based on Bundjalung Country in northern NSW, Sigrid creates bold contemporary still life in oil and acrylic. Channelling the storytelling power of floriography, her work pairs homegrown native blooms with unexpected vessels to explore themes of environmental care, diversity, and resilience through dynamic shadow and reflection.
