This painting is painted partly from looking and partly from imagination. I had flowers on the table but I wanted them to do more. The painting is about idealisation as well. It's about memory and projection. It's about what we want things to be like as opposed to sometimes how they actually are. Painting enables us to indulge this, whereas it can me more problematic in real life.
I went to Chisholm School of Art before decanping to the UK, where I did my BA at Wimbledon school of Art, with some time in Paris at Ecole de Beaux Arts.
I worked at the Tate gallery for many years as a gallery assistant which gave me plenty of time alone with quality painting.
I have exhibited in The Mall galleries, London, in both The Theadneedle Art Prize and the Discerning Eye exhibition, together with numerous self generated exhibitions alongside fellow contemporaries. More recently, (last year) I showed at The Yew Tree gallery in Cornwall.
I moved back to live in Melbourne in September 2024, now living in Port Melbourne.
Since arriving back I have exhibited at –
Red Gallery, Melbourne
Brunswick St Gallery, Melbourne
Meenyan Gallery, Gippsland
