Studio Composition (Passionfruit) features a collection of everyday domestic objects scattered across my studio desk. These items—familiar objects in the home such as a roll of paper towel, a steak knife, Apple earphones, and a net bag of passionfruit —reflect the functional, consumer-driven nature of contemporary domestic life. Daily chores of cooking dinner and cleaning the bathroom are occasional events, but necessary tasks within the week. We rely on these unsentimental, often overlooked objects to carry out these mundane rituals that maintain our home, nourish our bodies and support personal hygiene. These objects rarely warrant a second thought. I painted Studio Composition (Passionfruit) to celebrate the everyday-ness and quiet significance of these essential objects and chores which reflect unassuming moments of domesticity that are essential to our daily lives.
