In this painting I focus on the quiet tension between permanence and change. Moss, delicate and ever shifting, rests against the enduring surface of stone, forming a dialogue between fragility and strength. By isolating these forms from their forest surrounds, I bring attention to their textures and subtle rhythms, inviting reflection on how the landscape holds both memory and transformation within its surface.

Ben Liney (b. 1983) is an Australian artist working on the lands of the Bunurong. Working primarily in oil on canvas, his practice is grounded in close observation of the landscape, with a focus on stillness, surface, and the quiet presence of natural forms. Liney’s restrained and intimate compositions invite reflection on how the land holds time, memory, and quiet energy.
