TERRACOTTA CLAY

The sculpture ‘Cross My Heart Urn’ considers communication in contemporary society and how those in power shape our perceptions and realities. While symbolising the ashes of broken promises, the work is a dialogue about the lasting impact of what we say, serving as a reminder of the weight our words carry and the lasting impact they can have on the world around us.

Chrystie Longworth is an artist based on Dharawal Country, nestled between high cliffs and the sea. Her work draws inspiration from the dynamic currents of popular culture, advertising, and contemporary events, focusing on the intricacies of communication and the messages we strive to convey. Known for her colour-saturated ceramics, she is interested in how different palettes evoke their own moods.

Chrystie frequently works with terracotta and pigments, forgoing glaze to highlight the matte, tactile quality of the materials and the subtle play of light as it caresses the curves of her sculptures. Originally trained in Printmaking at Sydney College of the Arts, Chrystie is in her final year of a Masters of Ceramics at the National Art School.
