Vintage Memories, 2024

This particular blanket colour scheme reminds me of childhood nights. From being almost crushed by the weight of many blankets when staying overnight at my auntie’s house or being wrapped up in one and carried to the car for the after-bedtime trip home. Memories that have a feeling of safety, love and sanctuary.

Sandra Jenkins lives and works in North-West Tasmania and uses paint to depict her daily experiences. Still lives are a favourite genre and are easily accessible for both the artist and the viewer. Her creative practice allows her to form personal connections with the environment in which she lives and helps to form a sense of self. Drawing attention to singular pieces through an uncluttered composition that emphasises the beauty in our daily lives and the need for all people to appreciate and take care of their own backyard.
