From the past, 2024

I recently went overseas with my son to visit my Papa in Spain. After lunch, my Papa would go and have his routine siesta. This would be the time I would take myself up to the top floor of his village home, open a very small window and let the cold winter air come in while I either painted the distant snowcap mountains or painted a still life with objects that I found in my Papas 500-year-old home. When I got home, I felt the urge to continue to go into my studio and continue with the still-life stories. These paintings are a reflection of my journey.

Isabel Gomez is a Newcastle artist who grew up in Sydney. Isabel Graduated from Newcastle Art College Hunter Street Campus TAFE with an Advanced Diploma in Fine Arts in 1999. Isabel completed Bachelor of Fine Arts at the Newcastle University in 2007. In 2023, Isabel was included in the ACB Selects by Amber Creswell Bell. In 2012 and 2011, Isabel’s was selected for the Portia Geach Painting Prize. In 2012 selected into the Paddington Art Prize. In 2011, I was included in the Taronga Artist residency program. In 2010, Isabel won The NSW Parliament Plein Air Painting Prize. Isabel has exhibited at Damien Minton Gallery in the past and has recently had shows at the Straitjacket Art Gallery in Newcastle.
