Near Home, 2023

Geraldine is an Australian-born artist based in Naarm. Her interests are in deep body memory, the female perspective and the land we stand on. Exploring form, nuanced colour, and abstraction, her design aesthetic is influenced by her growing up in the modern era and memories of shapes and spaces in and outside her home. In particular, ‘Near Home’ investigates the childhood experience of watching uncultivated land turn into an urban landscape. While seeking opportunities to reconcile the past with the present, Geraldine aims to evoke gentle reflection on the links between the land and the human relationship to it.

Geraldine Richards was recently shortlisted for the Emerging Art Award at 45 Downstairs Gallery in Melbourne. Earlier in 2024 she presented work in a Pop Up Gallery – 356 Wattletree Road, East Malvern (March/April 2024). Other recent exhibitions include Invisible at Red Gallery, Fitzroy (Melbourne, 2017), Somewhere Near Here at Art at St Francis (Melbourne, 2019) Fantasy Landscapes at Malvern Art Society (Melbourne, 2020), Counter Encounter at Studio 11/ Owen Dixon Chambers (Melbourne, 2022) and Not Nothing/ It’s Something, RMIT MFA Graduate Exhibition at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (Melbourne, 2022).
