ACRYLIC AND CHARCOAL ON CANVAS
71 × 71 cm
Influenced by my experience as a psychologist, I am inspired by the themes of hope, humanity, and belonging. I use acrylic paint to create intuitive and gestural abstract works – a process like hope, which embraces the unknown, the uncertain, and the possible. My intention is not to tell a story but to encourage imagination and engagement with the viewer, who can have their own emotional response to the work and make their own meaning.

Eileen Cunningham is a West Australian emerging multidisciplinary artist based in Boorloo, Perth, Western Australia.
Using acrylic paint and mixed media she creates gestural and intuitive abstract works which engage the viewer by evoking feelings and memories. She embraces the ambiguity of abstraction for its capacity to allow interpretation and generate meaning, and for the creative freedom, possibilities and opportunities that can arise.
Cunningham’s career experience as a psychologist inspires her focus on themes of hope, connection and humanity which she expresses in her arts practice.
She is currently completing an Advanced Diploma in Visual Arts at North Metropolitan TAFE, Perth.
